  • Smith and Wesson's Governor Revolver

Smith and Wesson has entered the .410 handgun market with their new Governor revolver.
It premiered at the 2011 Shot Show in Las Vegas,NV.
It's major competitor, the Taurus Judge, has been available for awhile now, and has quite a following. So what does this new revolver from S&W have to offer? Let's take a look.

First of all, it's a six-shot, unlike the Judge, which only has a five shot cylinder.
It's chambered for 2 1/2" .410 shells, the Judge is available in a 3" cylinder version, no word as to S&W releasing a 3" version of the Governor.
Both the Governor and the Judge chamber the 45 Colt round .

One unique thing about the S&W Governor is that it can chamber 45ACP using moon clips. The Governor comes with two six round moon clips and 3 two round moon clips. The two round clips are to be used for what S&W calls "Mix Six", that is, loading a combination of different ammo in the cylinder. That's versatility!

It's frame is made of Scandium alloy with a stainless steel PVD cylinder, all finished in matte black and weighing in at 29.6oz. The Governor is single/double action, has a barrel length of 2.75" with an overall length of 8.5". Sights are a front dovetailed tritium night sight, with fixed rear sights. It comes with a synthetic grip but an optional Crimson Trace Laser Grip is also available. The purpose of the Governor is personal/home protection. MSRP is reported to be $697. $899 with the Crimson Trace Laser grip.

S&W has added unique features to set the Governor apart from the Taurus Judge. Only time will tell if this Governor can win the popular vote.

Same here, I was clueless. I looked up some videos of the Judge and it looks badass, no videos for the Governor yet. Can't wait to see what's next, RPG handgun anyone?

I own a 3" cylinder Judge and love it. Yeah, AK, I want to see the Governor in action too. I know my Judge has some recoil to it and it has a heavy steel frame, I bet the lighter Governor has some kick.

I imagine there to be a lot of sprained and broken wrists in the near future, especially as the ammunition advances. Gotta keep the white coats busy afterall.
